Welcome to the Chapter 7: Jeff section of the Half-Life: Alyx IGN Wiki Guide! You start the chapter having just broken into a vodka distillery on your way to the Vault.

In the first room, move forward and mantle over the barrels to your left. Teleport to the opposite side and hop down to the floor. You'll find a Resin on a shelf nearby. In the next room, you'll find a Resin in one of the tipped over yellow barrels, and a large Combine shield blocking your way. Take a right turn into the cloud of Xen spores.

If you walk into Xen spores without a respirator mask or without your hand covering your mouth, Alyx will cough loudly, attracting unwanted attention.

On the opposite side of this cloud of spores is a cafeteria. If you duck underneath the Xen coral blocking the next door over, you'll find a yellow crate with a Resin inside. Head back out into the cafeteria. Inside of the nearby yellow crate lined up against a pillar is a pistol clip. Behind the bar is a Resin. Travel to the end of the cafeteria and onto a staircase leading down to a patio below. Under the staircase is a Resin.

Note that there are many bottles of vodka strewn throughout all of Chapter 7, and you can even store them in your wrist pouches for when you need a quick distraction.

Travel through the next door and you'll hear a man muttering to himself. Jump down, then make your way forward, through the Xen coral structure to a ladder. In the next room, you'll find a guy named Larry trapped in the clutches of a barnacle. Kill the barnacle to free Larry, and he'll tell you all about the distillery's resident troublemaker, Jeff, before sending you on your way.

Jeff is, by the way, a colossal zombie-like creature that can't be killed by conventional means. More on Jeff later. For now, climb down the ladder and pick up a nearby Resin, then drop down another ladder and climb up that one to get to the next platform. From here, turn around and you'll see another Resin hanging out on some coral nearby.

Teleport across to the next platform and Larry will warn you that Jeff is lurking below. Teleport to the next door, get inside, and you'll find yourself in a tiny closet. Look at the ground for a box with a Resin in it. Exit the closet then teleport once more to the door on the far side of the gap. Push it open, then head inside.

Chat with Larry once more, then jump down through the cloud of Xen spores onto a parcel below. In front of you should be a yellow crate with a Resin inside. Turn around, mantle over the parcel, and head through the door at the end of the corridor.

Head down past the railing, kill the barnacle, and open the next yellow crate you see for another Resin. Keeping your hand over your mouth, unlatch the nearby door and continue into the next Xen spore-filled corridor. You can find another Resin in a nearby locker.

Once again, cover your mouth if you don't have a respirator mask! Alyx's coughing will make it impossible to distract Jeff in the next section.

When you're ready, open the garage door at the end of the corridor with both hands and prepare to meet Jeff. Jeff can't see anything, but will immediately rush whatever location it last heard a sound in, making noisy objects both invaluable and horribly inconvenient. It's impossible to shoot and kill him, so run back into the corridor and take the first corner to your left. There should be a space that you can crawl through. Grab a nearby bottle and throw it opposite of where you intend to move, then crawl underneath and sneak past Jeff.

Teleporting is the best way to move through this area quickly and efficiently, so make sure to teleport away from Jeff when you're evading. Move past the door that you just opened and onto the nearby crate (to your right) as you're entering the main area.

You'll want to remember the places that are most packed with bottles; they make the loudest noise when thrown, which makes him your secret weapon in distracting and dealing with Jeff throughout this entire section.

Jump down and head straight into the room with the wheel inside of it. Pop into the freezer real quick and pick up the Resin inside, then go back to the wheel. Next, make enough noise to attract Jeff into the room. Lure Jeff into the freezer, then shut the door and lock it.

Now turn the wheel until it opens the garage door all the way. Press the red button inside of the room that's now open for you to explore. Pretty soon, the power will go out, forcing you to get it going again. Nearby is an electrical cabinet with a conduit for you to rewire with your Multi-Tool. Before you do any rewiring, right now is the perfect time to grab two more Resins - one is in the hole in the wall to the left of the garage door, and the other is on a shelf in an adjacent room.

Finding the connections to rewire in the wall should be simple if you trace your Multi-Tool along the wall as you move outward from the electrical locker. The only problem is that, eventually, you'll come to a point where you'll need to unlock the freezer to secure the final connection to return power to the elevator. When you're ready, unlock Jeff's temporary prison cell and be prepared to distract him once more.

Inside of the freezer, the first turn of the junction will set off a loudspeaker alarm. Quickly turn the junction once more, throw a bottle away from yourself in the opposite direction, and continue tracing your Multi-Tool along the wall until you complete the circuit. Crawl into the elevator to find another sensor and begin the circuit. Follow the power line to the other end of the elevator and complete the circuit, powering the elevator back up and trapping Jeff inside the elevator with you.

Sneak behind Jeff and press the red button to make the elevator move. Hide in the corner while Jeff flips out a little, then sneak out through the open door once the elevator reaches its destination. Scurry between crates while throwing bottles in the next room, then walk across the wooden planks onto the catwalk outside.

Jeff will tail behind, so don't wait to move on through the next door you see. In the next corridor (between the two fenced enclosures) you'll see a headcrab hanging out above you. Take a detour to the left, through the pile of trash, then climb out on top. Cross the wooden plank to the opposite side, then drop down and collect two Resins from a yellow crate.

Turn back around, and look down and to your right. You should see a large hole in the wall, with a Xen coral structure inside. Enter it, and shimmy on through to the next section below. Shoot your way through the bloaters, then jump down onto the vodka tank below. Make your way out onto the next catwalk.

At this point, you'll need to collect three batteries, which you'll use to unlock the giant vaulted door in the ground. Speaking of, there are two Resins in the area next to that door; one is out in the open, and the other is inside of a yellow crate with a dead headcrab inside of it. When you're ready to face Jeff again and get those batteries, climb back up to the walkway and shoot the lock on the next door, then climb back down into the distillery.

Before you go looking for batteries, it's worth going to the side-room that's in front of you and to the right when you drop down into the enclosure. There's a red drawer on the wall to the right which has a respirator mask, which can be invaluable for helping you beat this part of the game. Also, there is at least one Resin and plenty of ammo in this room, so it's worth coming back to after Jeff is taken care of.

The first battery is located behind a gate that's controlled by a wheel. You can visibly see the battery behind the gate. You'll need to softly thread a piece of rebar through the wheel as you navigate it to its slot. Once inserted, twist it just enough to open the door slightly. If you've done it correctly, the battery will fly out to greet you on the floor, where you can pick it up more easily than if you had to fiddle with the gravity gloves. While you're at it, you can find a Resin in a blue crate to your right.

The next two batteries are in holes in the wall with light shining out of him. The best way to get every battery in one run is by throwing him at the bottom of the ladder back up to the catwalk. Lowering the ladder to you will make a loud noise, so do it quickly and clamber back up. Then, turn around and use your gravity gloves to grab each battery from a position of safety.

Insert each of the batteries into their receptacles, then attempt to open the vaulted door by pulling the handle on the far left of the machine. It'll fail and make a loud noise, prompting Jeff to bust through the metal doors on your left. This is the last time you have to deal with Jeff! Distract him so that you can get into the room he just busted out of. Open the yellow crate to reveal a Resin and plenty of bottles.

Throw a bottle into the trash compactor and lift the handle on the door to activate the machine. Now you have two options: You can either leave Jeff inside the trash compactor indefinitely, or you can press the big red button and it's bye bye for Jeff!

Your choice.

After the trash compactor is finished doing its business, pop inside to see the fruits of your labor firsthand. Then swing around the opposite side of the trash compactor to find another Resin in a wooden crate.

To open the vaulted door outside, pull the handles like this, in this order. Each time you pull a handle, a timer begins, so you'll have to go in this order before the timer runs out, or just start over from the beginning:

Now jump into the newly opened tunnel, and you're through. Congratulations on beating Chapter 7: Jeff. Next up is Chapter 8: Captivity.
