This recipe calls for using an 11" x 7" pan. This is not a regular home size lasagna or cake pan (which are more like 9"x13" ish). I wonder if this amount of potatoes is too shallow in a 9x13 pan? Which pan are you using? (have not yet made, but had to rate it to ask the question.)

I've made this a couple of times and it was so delicious! I barely had any left over. I DID cut the sugar in half the second time, it was way too sweet as called for. Made with a mixture of half white, half brown sugar. I don't know how anyone can call this recipe bland - it's incredibly good, and I typically hate sweet potato recipes with marshmallows. I think I liked it because it was a LESS syrupy, out of a can kind of recipe. Making again tonight, just because!

I made this today for Thanksgiving. IT WAS THE BOMB! I made a few minor adjustments to the recipe. I added cinnamon to the potato mixture, doubled the vanilla and brown sugar, tripled the pecans, and substituted Raisin Bran flakes for the corn flakes. For the final step, I put the marshmallows on first (evenly), sprinkled the pecans mixed with butter and brown sugar next, then topped it with the crushed bran flakes. The topped was super crispy and the potato blend was soft and gooey. We added vanilla ice cream on top and it DISAPPEARED even after the turkey dinner was consumed. Best sweet potato recipe I have ever made.

I have always used honey almond granola in place of the Cornflakes. So much better!!

Not a bad recipe, but the cornflake side of the topping came out soggy. I didn't make the topping ahead of time, I mixed it with the exact amount of butter and pecans right before I put it on the casserole, so I do not think I oversaturated it, so I'm not sure how to fix this problem.

I have made this casserole for many years so of course it has become staple on my holiday dinner table. I have made a few adjustments which might be helpful to some of you. I add a half teaspoon of finely zested orange peel while mixing the sweet potatoes with the other ingredients. Also, if you watch the video, you can see how easily the skins slip off the sweet potatoes after they are baked. There is no peeling involved. A big plus for me with these toppings is that some people do not like marshmallows and some do not like a crunchy topping. Thus, this topping gives everyone a choice.

Did not like this version. Took it to a Thanksgiving dinner and took most of it home! I was disappointed because I am known for my cooking. The topping was very bland, but it looked pretty!!

I like my sweet potatoes straight with a little butter, salt and pepper but was asked to bring sweet potato casserole to Thanksgiving dinner so I gave this recipe a try. It was a hit although I would suggest cutting the granulated sugar by half so you might actually taste the sweet potato goodness!

Great addition to Thanksgiving menu. Enjoyed by all! Would use less melted butter. It did not need that much. Just a sprinkling on top!

Just made this today for Thanksgiving 2013, it is completely gone! This will be my go to sweet potato recipe. It turned out exactly like the diagonal striped picture too. The only thing I did different that I saw other people comment on is the sugar. I did 1/2 cup white 1/2 cup brown instead of a whole cup of just white. It was just a tad too sweet. Next time I'll try 3/4 cup sugar instead. Oh! And the video show her using 1 1/2 cups butter whereas the recipe only calls for 1/2 a cup so I met in the middle and used 1cup. Tasted great. Thanks SL for this awesome recipe!

Really delicious, even the picky eaters loved it. I did reduce the sugar as suggested and it was still great!

Is there a reason why you say peel the potatoes after they're baked? That seems like it would be such a pain. AliceinAlanta to answer your question, you measure after you crush the corn flakes, and always add more butter ;)

I use 1/2 cup brown sugar and 1/2 c granulated instead of 1 c granulated. I also add couple dashes of pumpkin pie spice to the mashed sweet potatoes. This is the most requested potluck dish I've ever made. Love it!!!

Looks wonderful! Have not made yet but had to rate in order to ask these questions. Questions: The video shows 1 and 1/2 cups softened butter added to sweet potato mixture; the recipe calls for 1/2 cup softened butter to be added. Please, can someone clarify? Also, do you measure the corn flakes before or after crushing? Thanks!
This is the best sweet potato casserole recipe I have ever made. My family loved this recipe!!! It's a keeper!

I have always stayed away from sweet potatoes with marshmellos on them. I decided to give it a try because the corn flakes seemed intriging. It was wonderful. The corn flakes added a kind of nutty crunch. My guest all went home with this recipe.

this is the new standard for sweet potatoes at thanksgiving and christmas for my family. only thing i changed was to use 1/2 cup packed brown sugar instead of 1 cup granulated sugar. i've made the recipe once with the pecan/cornflake topping and once without, and i think i'll stick to just marshmallows from now on. if you have leftovers (unlikely since everyone will love it), the cornflakes lose their crunch and get soggy.

I'm not a sweet potato fan but I even liked this! Baking the potatoes makes a difference and that can be done early and placed in the fridge. And we all really liked the cornflake topping. Will make again!

WOW. All I have to say. This is one awesome recipe. Very tasty, the corn flakes is really good. Next time I may add just half of the sugar cos I think 1 cup is a little to much cos the potato are sweet anyways. But thats me cos I dont eat alot of sugar. But this recipe is excelent. Im making this from now on. Thanks for sharing this. Please dont think twice to make this recipe, you'll love it. God Bless. Thanks.

This is a delicious rendition of sweet potato casserole. I made this for this year's (2010) Thanksgiving and there were 3 sweet potato casseroles on the buffet and this dish was scraped clean long before the others. Though I think next time I make it I will change it up a bit and make it with either all brown sugar or a half white/half brown sugar mix as the color was a bit light and would be prettier with a little more "goldeny brown" color. All in all, a lovely recipe and thank you so much for sharing!! I will keep it in my recipe box for future use!!

I prepared this for Thanksgiving 2007. The casserole dish was scraped clean and people were begging for more. It's a really pretty dish with the diagonal marshmallow stripes, but more importantly, it's delicious. And it's now a T-giving requirement. And Easter.

Every time I've tried other peoples sweet potatoes I say to myself, they aren't sweet enough or they aren't mashed well so I decided to search for a recipe to fit my own tastes for my Christmas party. This fit the bill perfectly. I especially liked the pecans/corn flakes added to the recipe. Highly recommended.
