ingredients

  • 2 slices white bread, crust removed
  • 14 cup milk
  • 1 lb crabmeat, flaked
  • 3 green onions, chopped
  • 14 cup mayonnaise
  • 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 teaspoon dry mustard
  • 12 lemon, juice of
  • salt
  • peanut oil

directions

  • Place bread in bowl and cover with milk. Let stand 5 minutes.
  • Squeeze out excess milk from bread and place in clean bowl. Add remaining ingredients to the bread mixture and mix well. Cover and refrigerate 2 hours.
  • Shape mixture into thick pancakes. Cook in hot oil over medium heat , about 4 or 5 minutes or until nicely browned.
  • Serve with fresh lemon.
  • I place them on a paper towel for 1 minute to take away any extra oil.

  1. Crab cakes a best made with LUMP crabmeat, so the meat should NOT be flaked. Also, Old Bay is a must!

  2. Do not even bother with this recipe if you are looking for "Maryland Style Crab Cakes", as these are not. The recipe should call for Lump Crab, some Old Bay and egg(s) for a binder!

  3. I've lived in Maryland and NO WAY would anyone originally from that state make crab cakes without Old Bay seasoning... just would never happen! I did make these and they were good, just not as good as real Maryland Crab Cakes. They were also hard for me to keep together so I added a beaten egg, some celery, and some more whole wheat bread (only kind I had) and some fresh parsley. Did enjoy the lemon juice as was different. Thanks for a different recipe but will stick to my old one and keep using my Old Bay.

  4. I'm used to the Old Bay Seasoning used almost exclusively here in MD. The aromatic seasoning adds more than flavor, it adds punch! Sorry, they were moist...but not Maryland Style!

  5. I couldn't see making these without Old Bay Seasoning - My Mother's family is from the eastern shore and they were always made with Old Bay there.....even when they just steam the crabs.

  1. I thought these were very nice crabcakes! I made them while vacationing in the Outer Banks. I used dry bread crumbs instead of the white bread (what I had on hand). They were moist and tasty. Cooked them on the George Foreman, after brushing with the oil. Thanks for posting!

<p>I have 5 kids, 12 grandkids and now have 6 great grandchildren. I don't get to see them as much as I would like. I love to garden and I am also a broadcaster on radio and the net.. Recently married to an American although remarriage is something I thought I would never do again. He traveled 3000 miles with his cat to come to marry me. <br /><br />I owned my own craft store for 10 years but gave that up after a huge craft discount depot opened just 4 blocks from me. I used to teach 6 days a week; crafts like quilting, dried wreaths, Christmas ornaments, etc.</p><p>I &nbsp;had open heart surgery and recovered nicely.I am not the best patient in the world as I want to get going and get back to work and my life as I knew it.</p><p>I have retired and do help out at a soup kitchen for the homeless and 1 morning a week I make French Toast at a community center that supplies 26 schools with free snacks and sandwiches&nbsp; for the kids <br />I have been knitting blankets for Blankets for Canada an organization that helps the&nbsp;homeless keep &nbsp;a little bit warmer. I also knit for many different charities that supply kids with warm clothes.
